An occasional mild dose of stress, anxiety, or fear can be a normal response to certain life situations. However, if you feel overwhelming and persistent anxious, fearful, or stressed feelings, and you can’t control it no matter what you do, you may have an anxiety disorder. This anxiety can cause dread of everyday situations, and it can be disabling.

According to the NIMH, 40,000,000 people suffer from anxiety in the US every year. And those statistics have increased considerably due to coronavirus pandemic. For every 100 American adults, 34 show symptoms of anxiety, depression, or both.

Symptoms can occur anytime day or night and may include, feelings of pending terror, doom, or death, racing heart, feeling like having a heart attack, feeling weak, faint or dizzy, tingling or numbness in the hands, fingers or other body parts, chills or sweating, chest pains, trembling or shaking, shortness of breath, and feeling a loss of control. These symptoms can last ten or more minutes, and when you have one, you are more susceptible to additional, similar responses. Most often, these reactions are disproportionate to the actual situation.

What I see people for the most in my hypnotherapy practice is feelings of anxiety and depression. Usually, they’ve exhausted traditional medical treatments such as psychotherapy and medication without relief.
