In our culture, we are encouraged to believe that we create self-esteem through our accomplishments and achievement. And while accomplishments do help us feel better in the moment, they are not enough to heal deep-rooted feelings of shame, low self-esteem, and unworthiness. Skill mastery does little to dismantle the hardwired mental circuitry of early life conditioning.
I’m not saying stop accomplishing and mastering. But if you KNOW deep down, this is a problem, and you can’t seem to change these unhealthy, unhelpful feelings, chose to work through them with a professional. And, of course, my bias is hypnotherapy because it is based on brain science, it’s safe, easy and the results are both profound and lasting. Clear those roadblocks out of your path so you can achieve the success you want.
Then continue to master and accomplish those skills, talents, and abilities that will propel you along your journey and watch your new-found self-esteem soar.
Imagine this:
- Place your hand on your heart. Even the warmth of your hand, touching your heart center will activate the parasympathetic nervous system and start to calm you down while increasing feelings of safety and well-being.
- Remember a time when you felt truly loved and accepted by someone; it could be a moment with a beloved partner, friend, child, or pet, for example. Or, imagine what it would be like to feel loved.
- Step into this feeling of love. Let the feeling grow and spread throughout your body.
- Then take three deep breaths into your heart area, breathing in self-compassion, self-forgiveness, self-love, and well-being. Breathing these feelings into your heart and feeling it in your heart.
- Repeat this exercise many times a day. You’ll begin to feel its effect immediately, and those effects begin to last longer and longer.
